WikiPedia:Requests for expansion
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Almost every article in Wikipedia could do with some expansion. This page is for listing those stubs, substubs and other articles that have decent information, but that you find embarrassingly short or insufficient for an encyclopedia of the stature to which Wikipedia aspires.
Also see Category:Articles to be expanded.
Alternative pages:
- For articles where shortness is but one of a number of problems such as POV or wikification please list them on Cleanup or Pages needing attention.
- For pages needing an image please list them at Requested images
- For pages that do not yet exist please list them on Requested articles
Please list entries chronologically (newest at top) and add {{expansion}} to the top of the article or its talk page. You can also add an HTML comment, such as <!-- This article needs to be expanded --> at the top of the article or <!-- This part of the article needs to be expanded --> for any specific part that needs to be expanded. Once an entry has been expanded make sure to remove it from this page.
If you are coming here to fill requests or checking to see what requests have already been filled (and need to be de-listed), you might want to start with the 2004 requests.

- Applied anthropology - A subfield, but needs considerable elaboration Bruxism 00:43, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Proverb - Needs a folklorist or paremiologist to write a more sophisticated definition and analysis.Bruxism 23:57, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Roy Lichtenstein - This article is a good start but needs much expansion. Gamaliel 16:20, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Mercurochrome - This article needs to describe antiseptic properties, actual mercury content, chance of mercury poisioning, bias, chemical creation, popularity (US and external). --x1987x 20:35, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)
- Gerrymandering - Article needs some more examples from non US places, as well as more scientific analysis. Scott Ritchie 09:31, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Alfonso Sastre - This article about the Spanish playwright has a very good spanish wikipedia entry, but i just had to start the english one. so far i've done some translating, but I've also been adding new material from a biography and critical analysis from a copy of one of his plays. Someone already put a link to a babelfish translation so you don't even have to speak spanish to help. Finally, I would like to see more analysis of the themes in his plays; the biography is already pretty well developed. --Comrade009 23:57, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Fractal antenna - This is a very new and very strange antenna design that is particularly applicable to broadband transmission such as IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi). Since the Wireless community network boom is still going strong, I'm sure there are lots of other hobbyists like me salivating over this. What we really want to know is how do we make our own?--Yannick 23:50, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Century Institute - An interesting, short-lived experiment in training progressives (think "bizarro Hertiage Foundation") that seems to be on temproary hiatus. Faculty included William Julius Wilson, Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and Theodore C. Sorensen. Anyone who knows more about the program, it context or its faculty should please add more.
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - When i found this article it was pretty much "much like psychoanalysis but shorter and they don't sit on a couch". Added some, but needs more. Lots more. JoeSmack (talk) 16:11, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)
- Influences on the Spanish language - New article, covers formative influences and Native American borrowings, but not modern borrowings from European languages. See talk page. --Pablo D. Flores
- Living Sacrifice - This is probably the most respected Christian Metal abdn form the 90's, adn it is still extremely respected. It should hvae pictures, discogrpahy, info on its Greatest Hits and Tribute Album.
- Eureka College - While not a large school, it is still important historically as the first college in Illinois and the third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis. Eureka has also just celebrated its 150th birthday. If anyone can add to the page, it would be appreciated, as I don't have the time to do the entire article...nor do I want to do the entire article, as it would then be biased my way.
- Children of the Drone - newcomers have no idea actually what Children of the Drone is - need more clear explanation on the matter. CrossTimer 07:49, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Smart(fx) - I can't find any information on it. Needs to be drastically expanded.
- In the Simple English section the stub article could be improved - (and various articles in the main English encyclopedia could be "translated").
- Dr Syn could do with a bit of expansion (eg mentioning the highwayman who appears in several volumes) - and the first written book in the series is actually the last in the series.
- Education in Argentina - major topic, not covered at all in the main Argentina article. I've done all I could already... --Pablo D. Flores
- Munich air disaster - very newsworthy event but there's not nearly enough content about what happened. I'll do some editing on it myself but there are other articles that I want to work on at the moment so it'd be good if someone could help out. -- CTOAGN 11:51, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Haakonian Order - small enough to be entirely useless right now, but I don't know anything about it. --24.92.134.136 10:39, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Molotschnaya River - a real river in Ukraine, though not a real town. Don't know enough about it to expand further than <blah> is a river in Ukraine... -- Francs2000 | Talk (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Francs2000&action=edit§ion=new) [[]] 02:11, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Seattle General Strike of 1919 - impetus for red scare, important event in US labor history 67.170.139.129 00:17, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Celestial Mechanics - The Examples of Problems should have more detail, I think. --User:Ben Standeven 21:28, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Convention People's Party - The article of the most important political party in Ghanaian history includes only the latest election results. --Sesel 03:08, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Katie Brownell - 11 year old Little Leaguer known for her amazing strike-out feat. The story may be a short one, but it's not yet over. I don't know how to follow all the details (searching for her yields mostly older news stories, not newer ones), but I think she's worth expanding on, even if her fame is only fleeting. --CGally81 00:28, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth - more on history, current status, famous inmates, etc would make this a much better article. Right now, it's too long to be a stub, but not complete yet.
- Weatherzone - Article right now reads like a dicdef or an advertising blurb. While it may be important to Australians, not being one I don't see how it is; if it is significant, it needs to be exanded so it doesn't end up on VFD listing.--Mitsukai 15:45, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I'm a weatherzone user, and I don't think the weatherzone website itself is significant enough to warrant an article. It's just a glorified version of the Bureau of Meteorology website. I do think there would be a case for creating an article on [www.theweather.com.au The Weather Company], which manages weatherzone, and also is the main distributor of weather information to TV stations. I'll see what I can do about it, though I really should be studying for exams now :) -- Graham 03:30, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- List of holiday colors - Article only covers the U.S., and does not list colors of every holiday. Note that I have relisted this article as it barely got any attention last month. Andros 1337 04:18, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I hope I've helped somewhat. I don't know that many non-US holidays(I looked through Category:Holidays somewhat.) Maybe listing this with some of the non-US noticeboards might be helpful. JesseW 02:53, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- 1998 U.S. embassy bombings - very short --Tothebarricades.tk 03:45, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)
- Mass marketing, being one of the most important parts of our modern society, deserves some serious expansion. This should be a community collaboration at some point. Ryan Prior 02:55, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)
- Paraplegia has only three lines. fabiform | talk 17:54, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- Burlesque is a rather short article on an important and well-documented cultural phenomenon.
- Disney's 65 episode policy needs more information on controversy regarding this policy and a more complete list of shows affected by it
- Disinfection. Needs more about the process itself, rather than on "disinfectants". --Tothebarricades.tk 07:51, May 29, 2005 (UTC)
- Succession to Muhammad. Has several empty sections. --Tothebarricades.tk 23:27, May 28, 2005 (UTC)
- The Coca-Cola Company is 90% criticism of the company. Definitely needs work as far as the company's history. There are sub articles about Coca-Cola (the drink) and Coca-Cola brands. Feco 22:29, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
- The North West Company article has a great deal of information on the company's past. Most people don't know that it is still operating today. Can someone please update and "modernise" the article. The Northwest Company's website is here (http://www.northwest.ca/BackOffice/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=10016) and the info page is here (http://www.northwest.ca/BackOffice/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=3&tabid=10020).

- Predicative verb - a subset of stative verbs, à la Japanese i-adjectives. Only mentions a few languages, almost no examples, and the instances of those look suspiciously like zero copula. See talk page. --Pablo D. Flores
- AFL-CIO - America's largest trade union, in need of a much larger article to detail its achievements, history and relationship with the Democratic Party. See the talk page for more.
- St. Joseph's College, Edmonton - Article needs to be "fleshed out". In addition, there are problems with the overall style of the article (ie. needs to be cleaned up).
- Coat of Arms of Cuba- so their is an article and it's just a picture of the COA and the caption "Coat of arms of Cuba". I am sure someone could say something about the symbols in it and what they stand for, also considering that this is a Communist country it have a very non-communist style of COA.
- Historic preservation - Seems as if the article was cut of in mid stream, their should be a lot more to say about Historic preservation then what is stated in the article.
- Formula one - Many race result tables have last row missing, usually first retirement of the race
- Criminal tattoo - particularly US tattoos (there are some helpful links at the bottom of the article). — Note: added by User:195.157.197.108
- American Forces Network - I am part of the Wikipedia Cleanup Taskforce so I have been doing cleanup work on the page, but it needs to be expanded as well. Right now, it has 0 information on the AFN as it served US Troops in the Vietnam War, which is a major part of its history. If someone could find some info and add it, it would be appreciated. — Note: added by User:Woohookitty
- Politeness - Fascinating topic, too short, almost no examples, good stub and little else. Needs linguistics topics (Japanese politeness is in already), polite gestures, specific non-Western cultural conventions to make it balanced, resolving red links (see Talk:Politeness). --Pablo D. Flores 01:48, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
Tony Bennett - Ridiculously short amount of information on very notable vocalist. A google search for Tony has Wikipedia as the fourth site. ErikNY 20:48, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

- Clothing terminology - Needs major work, but promises to be a good article. StepsTogether 21:58, May 13, 2005 (UTC) - I have basically ripped it apart and started over, trying to cover the "questions" originally asked -will continue to expand. PKM 23:40, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

- Circumcision and Media Ethics: Needs links to references and work to improve NPOV.
- How-To I think it would be really interesting to see a how-to section (perhaps called wiki-how-to) that would attempt to explain how to do certain things. There could be sections for more academic subjects (ie algebra, statistics) as well as practical subjects (buying a car, etc). In some cases these would cross the line from fact to opinion, but they could be very helpful.
- Neo-classical growth model, Endogenous growth theory and other topics relating to Economic growth, generally need a lot of work. In my opinion, these are very important topics with very limited and often misleading treatment.
