This page highlights images and charts that we find beautiful, striking, shocking, impressive, titillating, fascinating, incredible, or in short just brilliant. It is the visual equivalent to Featured articles and, as such, even more subjective. To see these pictures without having to click on every link, see Wikipedia:Featured pictures visible. Be warned, however, that that page may take a while to load. To browse through all the pictures at a glance see Wikipedia:Featured pictures thumbs, which has smaller images, but loads faster than Feature pictures visible.
One photo from this list is featured daily on Template:Pic of the day. You can include this box anywhere (e.g. your user page) by adding the text {{pic of the day}} or {{POTD}} where you want the picture to be shown. Images which have previously featured in Template:Pic of the day are shown in bold text below. All the featured pictures that have been used as a "Pic of the day" are presented in a montage at Template:Pic of the day/Image archive.
If you wish to add specific images to this page, please consider the following guidelines:
- First nominate it on Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates (see that page for further instructions).
- Images listed here should be either in the public domain or covered by the GNU Free Documentation License. While we tolerate some degree of fair use, a simple image gallery is of limited educational value (a requirement for fair use), and showcasing other people's work without their permission may be considered unfair.
- Please do not add too many images of the same category/type. There are many beautiful flowers, for example, but it will suffice for us to list a few representative, especially beautiful photos here (providing a link to more pictures of the same type would of course be appropriate).
If you wish to contribute photos or other pictures of your own to Wikipedia, please see Wikipedia:Requested pictures, and search for articles which might be illustrated by images you have. See also Wikipedia:Image use policy for details.
To add a diagram to a Wikipedia article, see Wikipedia:Graphics tutorials for advice on how to produce diagrams with a word processor or a drawing program.
If you are a contributing photographer (or artist) consider adding your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Photographers.
There are currently 260 featured pictures.
