Each week, Wikipedians nominate two articles to become the collaborations of the week. The aim is to produce featured-standard articles, through widespread cooperative editing. This project aims to fill holes in Wikipedia, so only non-existent articles, or stubs may be nominated.

Please note: this is a trial period with two articles per week, instead of just one. For the old one-per-week collaboration, see Collaboration of the week.
The current Collaborations of the week are The Seventies and Navy.

Selection process

The collaborations are selected by approval voting. This is done by clicking the edit button to the right of the article's nomination, and adding the text # ~~~~.

  • Only registered users may vote, and their first edit must have been before the article was nominated.
  • Only support votes and comments should be added, as the articles are chosen by approval voting.

The two articles chosen are the two articles with the most votes, of broadly different categories (such as Ancient Greece and the weather). This is intended to give a diverse range of people contributing to the articles and prevent dividing contributors' knowledge between two similar articles.

  • At the bottom of the list of nominees on this page enter the text {{Wikipedia:Collaborations of the Week/article name}}, replacing the text "article name" appropriately.

  • I happen to know that COTW regulars must be ancient Greco-Roman experts by now. I just stumbled upon this article and was surprised to find a stub.   • If this article became COTW, would it be an overview of the entire history of Greece (which I imagine it would be) and link to the specific time periods, or would it cover a certain time period?   • I'm surprised this doesn't exist yet. The history of the Scandinavian countries are so deeply intertwined that it is important to have a page looking at them as a group. We have a lot of articles touching on this area, but no one page that ties them all together. - SimonP 17:31, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
    • I tried Scandinavian history and it just redirects to Scandinavia. It is another topic that needs to be selected as a COTW.
    • I made it a redirect like Scandinvian history and then added a COTW message about it on the talk page so it will be more noticable that it is a candidate. Falphin 18:48, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • I must say I don't much like this practice. To me nothing illustrates the need for a page more than a red link. It also doesn't much help readers who are expecting to find an article on the subject rather than a redirect to a related page . - SimonP 19:58, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

    • I agree I would consider Scandinavia Norway, Sweden and Finland, though Denmark could be also considered. Greater Scandinavia could include Iceland, The Netherlands, the North and East Frisian areas of Germany and the Kola Peninsula. Sqkvii 06:56, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • Scandinavia is clearly defined and includes Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Finland, the Netherlands, Russia and Northern Germany has nothing with Scandinavia to do!! However, Scandinavians share some of their history with bordering areas, and many countries were colonized by Scandinavians. This does however not make Britain part of Scandinavia, just like America is not part of the British Islands.
    • IMHO, I believe Scandinavian history would include, Norway,Sweden,Finland,Denmark,Faroes,Greenland,and Iceland for the entire article. While during ceartain periods, the Baltic countries, Normandy, Rus, and England would be included. Falphin 17:19, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

    • Since Iceland, Finland, and the Baltic Republics have all been ruled by Scandinavian states at one time or another, sticking to a strict definition will be impossible. As I've noted there are decent articles on individual nations; this article needs only to be an overview, so I don't think there's any point in going narrow. For the record: The Scandinavian countries are Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The two latter being the countries of the Scandinavian peninsula. The Nordic countries are Denmark (including the Faroe Islands and Greenland), Norway, Sweden, Finland (including the "Ĺland islands"), and Iceland. The Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are not included in any of these groups.     • Actually, it's hard to think of exactly what could go into a featured-quality long-length article under "Space Age". Perhaps you mean Space Race; otherwise the general topic is Space exploration. I don't know what else "Space Age" could cover other than its temporal denifition (which it does now and is therefore necessarily quite short), or maybe the effect of space exploration on culture (which is itself an interesting topic).--Pharos 02:44, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

        • Racism in the Northern United States isn't nearly as established as Racism in the Southern United States.   • I would much rather begin with Racism in the United States (and why isn't there a Racism section under Human rights in the United States?. It is also incorrect and stereotypical to assume that racism in the North is less important or encyclopedic; it often had a different character. For example the New York Draft Riots involved the lynching of several African-Americans and stemmed from unemployment and job competition issues as much as anything; Chicago is infamously the most segregated city in the country; and no one can say that racism has had little to do with the decline of Detroit.   • This, of course is a particularly US-Centric article. I was surprised that there had not even been a stub created. 1976 was a major event in its own right, as important as Y2K to those of us in the US. As well as quite memorable to those of us who lived through it (although myself I was only 9 years old). There were innumerable celebrations around the nation, and it contributed to other things, for instance, the celebration and gatherings in New York City are often cited as the initial source of the spread of AIDS in the United States.   • Part of the celebration that is often overlooked by those who are not railfans was that of American railroads. Many of the largest railroads in the country painted some of their equipment in special bicentennial paint schemes (such as this Santa Fe Railroad locomotive).
