Welcome to Acaides' user page. I became a Wikipedian on 19 November, 2004. I am currently a junior at Purdue University, majoring in Computer Engineering.
Please leave any comments on my talk page. Any posts made to this user page will be reverted and a copy placed on my talk page. If necessary, I will respond to your comment(s) on your talk page.
The best, and definitely fastest, way to contact me is on AOL Instant Messenger. My username there is also Acaides. I am usually logged on 24/7. If I'm not available, I will usually have an informative away message.

Major project
Currently, I am heavily involved in developing articles about and related to Colleges and Universities as a part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities.
The project, started on 10 August, 2003, the project is attempting to formulate a standard template for College and University articles on Wikipedia. The ultimate goal is to bring all articles on the subject into compliance with a single standard in order to give Wikipedia a more professional look, make cross-referencing easier, expand content of edu-stub articles, and ultimately make Wikipedia a more useful and powerful resource.
Interests
Hmm. I thought I would include a list of my interests, as it seems to be the thing to do, so here goes:
- open source software / free software, and the free software movement in general.
- electronics, computers, etc.
- american politics
- Ben Folds
- Star Trek
Articles originated
These are the articles on Wikipedia that I have started. I monitor all of these pages in my watchlist, and update or expand them as necessary.
- Zero crossing threshold detector (19 November, 2004)
- Threshold detector with hysteresis (20 November, 2004)
- Martin C. Jischke (21 December, 2004)
Future projects
These are some of the articles I plan on working on in the relatively near future, in no particular order:
WikiPolitiks
Since I've been experimenting on Wikipedia, I've become somewhat familiar with some of the institutional workings of this place and how this wiki concept tends to play out. One of the biggest (and most confusing and irritating) issues I have come across are those regarding intellectual property, licensing, and other legal nonsense.
I prefer to leave these issues to the lawyers, and I don't particularly care how my contributions are used, so long as they remain free and are never sold for profit (I thought that was the whole idea behind Wikipedia). I am perfectly happy with any free licensing scheme, be it the GFDL or something equally or more free. I see my contributions as charitable donations to Wikipedia, its governing instituiton, the Wikimedia Foundation, and ultimately to mankind.
