Can anybody tell me why is Philips "ROYAL" ?
- Presumably because they have permission (eg a charter) from the monarchy in the Netherlands allowing them to use the word. Loganberry 12:24, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Philips is an international Dutch company, which is over 100 years old, and it's name is not too much damaged, so the queen of the Netherlands decided sometime that Philips deserves it to ware the particle Royal in it's name. Every five years the queen decides if the company still deserves it to wear the particle ROYAL in it's name. In the Netherlands companies usually don't use "koninklijk" in their name, of which royal the translation is, but abroad royal seems to give a company some status.
