Senseo

Senseo is a coffee brewing system from Dutch companies Philips and Douwe Egberts. It's two main features are the coffee pads and its characterisic design. The coffee pads make the Senseo very easy to use, but the pads are relatively expensive. Less coffee is wasted, which compensates for the price issue a bit. Senseo is actually a brand name for the corporation, but the brand name is usually linked with the coffee machine. Owners of a Senseo coffee machine tend to call their machine "a Senseo", talk about "having a Senseo" for drinking a cup and talk about "Senseo coffee pads" whatever the brand. A limitation of the Senseo system is that it only brews the coffee pads, which are only available in a limited number of blends.
The main blends are mild, medium, and dark roast and there is also a decaf variety. The pads are differently packaged and named for each country they are shipped to. Also, the blends do differ, according to general taste in said countries. The special blends, Sumatra, Kenya and Brazil are blended from arabica's from selected plantations and are a little more expensive than the normal blends. There are also coffeepads with added flavors. These flavored coffee's are getting more popular, and are getting more numerous.
A sidenotice. When this got introduced some other coffeetoaster imitated the patended pads. After a Belgian lawsuit the judge declared the idea of patenting anything concerning coffee void, and the imitators could copy freely.
An international lawsuite is refuting this judgement.
