Russia Day is an Independence Day holiday in the Russian Federation celebrated on June 12. On this day, in 1990, Russian parliament formally declared its sovereignty. While the holiday has been officially on the books since 1991, 2003 is the first year that it was celebrated in a major way. There was a big parade in Moscow, and President Vladimir Putin gave a speech.
