Licancabur is a stratovolcano which lies on the border of Chile and Bolivia near the Laguna Verde. Its last eruption happened in the Holocene.

The 70 x 90 m crater lake at the summit is believed to be the highest lake in the world, and despite temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius it contains numerous living creatures.
