A baker is someone who bakes and sells bread, cakes and similar foods. The place where the baker works is called a bakehouse, bakeshop or bakery.

The first group of people to bake bread were ancient Egyptians, c 8000 BCE.

In modern commercial baking, the baker usually does not create or mix raw materials and is reduced to purely baking and selling. Raw materials (dough, etc.) are shipped from larger bakery companies with an "assembly line".
