2005 Hudson Valley Mall shooting incident

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Hudson Valley Mall shooting incident occurred in a Best Buy electronics store in a mall on Sunday, February 13, 2005. Initial reports indicated that a gunman or gunmen (up to five people) opened fire shortly after 3 p.m. inside the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston, New York, about 90 miles (145km) outside New York City.

The exact number of shots fired and the type of firearm used is unknown (though reports indicate that an "assault-type rifle" was used). One suspect was captured by mall employees after he ran out of ammunition and later taken into custody by police from the nearby town of Ulster; he was only described as a 24-year-old male.

Two people were injured: a U.S. Army recruiter, who was shot in the leg, and another person who was injured in the hand, either from shrapnel or flying glass. The Army recruiter was evacuated by helicopter to the Albany Medical Center in Albany, where he is listed in critical condition but is said to have a non-lethal injury. Officials will not release the name or any other details about the suspect or the wounded persons, but have said that there is no immediate link to terrorism.

After the suspect was caught, the mall was shut down. Store employees were taken out one at a time and loaded onto buses. Federal law enforcement agencies continue to investigate and search for additional suspects.
